Parking
Parking in Boston can pose a significant challenge. If arriving by plane do not rent a car.
If you are driving to Boston instead of flying and hope to avoid high parking fees the MBTA has identified several parking areas that allow overnight parking. https://www.mbta.com/parking/overnight-parking
If you plan to leave your car in the city we suggest you park your car in a garage for the duration of your stay and navigate the city on foot/taxi/public transit. Self park garage rates average roughly $40 per day with no in/out privileges. A limited amount of metered parking is available in the city. Metered spaces are generally limited to 2 hours (except Sundays when there are no restrictions on meters). Parking tickets in Boston range from $55 - $125 depending on the citation.
Public TRANSPORTATION
The public transportation/train system in Boston is operated by the MBTA and is referred to as the “T”. It is the oldest public transportation system in the United States! MBTA fares are collected via a “Charlie Ticket” that can be purchased using cash or credit at automated machines inside each train station. Fares are collected on a flat rate per-ride basis and paid upon entering the station. More details at: https://www.mbta.com/fares.
UBer / Lyft / taxi
Uber and Lyft both operate in Boston and offer a combination of convenience and affordability. Using these services will be less stressful and more cost effective than parking. Major hotels always have a taxi stand and taxis can be hailed on the street.
